Amsterdam / Dortmund, 13 March 2026 – After having acquired their first project in Germany in the summer of 2025, GIGA Storage is now pleased to announce the appointment of a new Project Director Germany. Lars Josten Calçada joined the GIGA Storage team on 2 March 2026. He will focus on developing and advancing the company’s activities in the German battery energy storage market.

The appointment marks the next important step in establishing GIGA Storage’s presence in Germany, one of Europe’s most important markets for large-scale battery energy storage. With the rapid growth of renewable energy generation, battery energy storage is becoming increasingly important to provide flexibility and maintain grid stability in the German power system.
The German office and activities build on the recent acquisition of the large-scale battery storage project Albatross (350 MW/1.400 MWh) near Neuenkirchen, Lower Saxony, and represent the next step in expanding GIGA Storage’s European presence. The German activities are closely integrated with the existing teams and centres of expertise in the Netherlands and Belgium, combining local market presence with the technical and development experience already established within GIGA.
ABOUT LARS JOSTEN CALÇADA
Lars has extensive experience in the renewable energy and infrastructure sector and has been involved in the development and commercialisation of international large-scale renewable energy and energy transition projects. Throughout his career he has worked on project development, partnerships and market expansion, with a focus on BESS for the past two years.
“The flexibility of battery energy storage is becoming a cornerstone of Europe’s future energy system. Germany is one of the key markets for large-scale storage, and I’m very excited to join GIGA Storage at this important stage of its expansion. I am confident that together we will build a strong German battery storage platform,” explained Lars.
At GIGA Storage, Lars is working closely with the development team in the Netherlands and Belgium to support the further expansion of the company’s battery storage portfolio and team in Germany.
